It's been a while since I've blogged here.  Lots of good things going on.  I put our video on the Home Page of some of our work throughout the years.  Below is our new line of Iron Doors.    Remember....You dream it....we build it!

One of our most current projects has been a remodel job in Columbia.   The entry is a pair of 30" x 9' x 2 1/4" thick maple doors.  We used maple because the entry will be painted (it is primed in this photo).  The copper light is mounted to the panel below the transom.

The hardware is Fersa hardware from Buenos Aires.  It is not installed in this photo but it will be in center of the doors, where the one temporary knob is currently placed.

Southern Custom Doors & Hardware would like to give a shout out of appreciation to our former employee, Frank Ransom, currently serving in the U.S. Navy.  We miss you Frank but we have no doubts you will serve our country with pride just like you made us so proud of you while you worked here.

We enjoy working with our customers and listening to the stories behind their project designs.  

About a year ago, at one of our home shows, a couple came up and told us they had read an article about us several years earlier.  The article featured one of our plank doors, the Milligan (see this door under our Plank Doors tab) and the couple told us this was their dream entry.  They whipped that newspaper article out to show us that photo and that began their project. 

The Milligan is a beautiful plank door with full surround sidelights. It is Mediterranean in style, including the clavos, straps grill and entry hardware.  Our new customers wanted the same design style but did not want to tear out the existing brickwork around their current entry.

As with all retrofit projects, the existing opening can be tricky for some designs. Before the initial design process is complete, on local jobs, we go to the house and remove the inside trim to expose the framing of the house to insure our new entrance will fit properly.  For out of state jobs, we work closely with the builder/installer to achieve this same goal. 

The Milligan design was modified to work with the existing brickwork and the result was an absolutely beautiful entry.  Click on our Before and After Photos tab to see the Scurry before and after photos.

Here we will be sharing tips on door and hardware maintenance, information on new products and updates on current projects we think might be interesting to readers.  Obviously this is a work-related blog but we thought we would add a little personal information also in this first blog.

 If you’ve read how we started our business by clicking on the link on our Home page, then you know we’ve been in the door business since around 1994.  Bill started as an apprentice part time after his full time job.  I was working full-time and we had two young sons in middle school.  Like many families, we all pulled together to make the situation work for us. 

 Our sons are now in their late twenties and are still so supportive of everything we continue to do here at Southern Custom Doors & Hardware.  After graduating from Clemson, one son married a lovely young lady from Calgary, Canada and moved up there. Our other son went on to get his Masters from Seton Hall University and elected to serve our country through the United States Army.  He is currently serving in South Korea.  Both of our boys try to get home as often as possible.  When they do, they always come out to the shop to see what new projects we’re working on at the time. 

 Our production and installation staff are some of the best in the business.  Our team has such a passion for what we do here.  Customers are always telling us how much they love their doors and I think it reflects the pride we take in our work.  Attention to details is everything to us.
